Is AI in Retail moving from theoretical to production? (UCP: Walmart+Google)

Is AI in Retail moving from theoretical to production? Maybe it’s too early to answer properly.

Anyway, an interesting Use-case came up recently.

Walmart and Google announced integration of Gemini for automated ordering workflows, blurring the line between browsing and buying.

Example: you’re organizing a dinner for roughly ninety people.

Instead of you juggling tabs, vendors and spreadsheets, it’s the system that proposes the menu (and the shopping-list).

Not ‘here are some options’ but ‘here’s what you should serve.’

Then: one quick confirmation, one quick action –> order placed in just a few minutes.

All of it riding on the new UCP protocol.

Note: the ‘Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)’ is an open-source standard designed to power the next generation of AI-based agentic commerce.
